Every person is created in the Divine Image.  We were made through the Divine Sefirot which in Kabbalah are known as the manifestations or the Eternal Light (Ein Sof).  This is why every person has senses Truth and Eternity and longs to connect to Truth.  There is much more than superficiality of mundane life and daily routine.

RESPECT….

..is the second of the 7 Universal Core Values which comes from the prohibition to blaspheme G-d.  It is about using our power of speech to articulate our thoughts and feelings with dignity and honor, not only to G-d but to His children made in the Divine Image.

The 10 sefirot map to different parts our beings.   At the level of INTELLECT we have:  Wisdom, Understanding, and Knowledge which manifest themselves in an individual as Selflessness, Joy, and Unification.  At the level of EMOTIONS we have: Kindness, Strength, Beauty, Victory, Splendor, Foundation, and Kingship.  This in turn on the manifest themselves in the individual as Love, Fear, Mercy, Prevalence, Sincerity, Bonding, and Service.  Then there are physical manifestation in the actual male and female physical bodies of these Divine attributes.  For example, in a man his beard represents the 13 attributes of Divine Mercy for which the Torah prohibits a Jew to shave off his beard.  Why would you remove the physical manifestation of God’s mercy?

Some points to think about:

  • “Respect is the 2nd of the 7 Universal Core Values which comes from the prohibition to blaspheme.
  • Blaspheme means to disrespect The Divine Presence with words which is the second garment of our souls (Thoughts, Speech, and Actions are all three)
  • The power of  speech is what differentiates us from other mammals.  In Hebrew a human is called “medaber” lit. one who speaks or speaking one.  Our power of articulation is a Divine gift that should be used to bless, praise and thank God.
  • To speak disrespectfully to any person, we are disrespecting God since every person is made in the Divine Image.
  • There are those who we owe additional respect to due the special relationships we have with them such as our Parents, Teachers, Siblings, and Spouses.  We owe them additional respect in the way we address them.
  • How do we connect to these Divine Emanations?
